On Friday morning, the father of the 31-year-old doctor who was sexually assaulted and killed at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata got a call.

A letter regarding “tampering” evidence is sent by doctors to the CBI.

The female doctor’s body was found in a Kolkata hospital, and the West Bengal Doctors’ Forum said in a letter to the CBI on Tuesday that construction work had been done close to the scene, tampering with the evidence, PTI reported.

On Friday, the post-graduate trainee physician with severe injuries was discovered in the chest department’s seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. According to the first autopsy report, she had been the victim of a violent sexual assault.

Vice-chancellors of state institutions were asked by West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Tuesday to strengthen security at the campus buildings, Raj Bhavan sources informed PTI.

Bose voiced his disgust over the tragedy and criticized the conduct of the Kolkata Police in handling the rape-murder case at the meeting, which was attended by about thirty vice-chancellors, the official said.

According to the person who spoke to PTI, “the governor called an emergency meeting with the vice-chancellors today and asked them to ensure protection for female students and female staffers immediately.”

The Calcutta High Court ordered on Tuesday that the CBI take over the Kolkata Police’s probe into the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This move coincides with a broad protest by junior physicians that has seriously interrupted public healthcare services for the fifth day running, forcing several state-run hospitals’ emergency and outpatient departments to close.
